Following the visit of Prof. Janitha A. Liyanage, H. E. the Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Russian Federation, to the Republic of Kalmykia, an online introductory meeting was arranged between the Kalmyk State University and the University of Sri Jayewardenepura on 13 October 2023.

The Kalmyk State University was represented by Associate Professor Kermen Badmaeva, Vice-Rector for Science and Strategic Development, while the University of Sri Jayewardenepura was represented by Dr. Ruwini Dharmawardene, Director, International Affairs Division. The staff members of both Universities also joined the meeting.
The sides briefly described their Universities and proposed cooperation initiatives of mutual interest, in particular underlining such spheres as ecology, engineering, Asia studies, medicine and indigenous medicine. Both Universities agreed to consider establishing cooperation through joint educational activities, student and academic exchange and decided to negotiate on signing the Memorandum of Understanding.
