On 20 November, 2023 Prof. Janitha A. Liyanage, H. E. the Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Russian Federation, visited the Federal Agency for the Commonwealth of Independent States Affairs, Compatriots Living Abroad, and International Humanitarian Cooperation (Rossotridnichestvo), and held a meeting with its Head, Mr. Yevgeny Alexandrovich Primakov.
After a cordial welcome, the two sides discussed the matters of educational, cultural and humanitarian cooperation between the two countries and touched on such matters as increase of the Russian Government scholarships granted to Sri Lankan students, opening of Russian cultural and language centers in Sri Lanka and other initiatives, which can contribute to strengthening ties between the two countries in the long-term.
Mr. Primakov pointed out that the Universities, which teach Sri Lankan students, commend their performance and diligence and underlined that Russia is willing to assist Sri Lanka in providing higher education to its citizens, which will enable them to contribute to success of the island upon graduation.
Prof. Liyanage, in her turn, expressed appreciation of Russia's support to education of the citizens of Sri Lanka and highlighted that this initiative is instrumental to strategic development of the country.
