Following the visit of Prof. Janitha A. Liyanage, H. E. the Ambassador of Sri Lanka in Moscow to the city of Ivanovo, on 21 December 2023, the Embassy of Sri Lanka in the Russian Federation arranged an introductory online meeting between the Ivanovo State University (IvSU) and the Gampaha Wickramarachchi University of Indigenous Medicine (GWUIM).

In the course of the meeting, the GWUIM was represented by Prof. Ranjana W. Seneviratne, Vice Chancellor, and Dr. Asanka Pallewatta, Director of the International Center, while the IvSU was represented by Mr. Nikita Sorokin, Vice-Rector for International Relations, and Mr. Alexey Mikhailov, Director of the Shuya branch of IvSU and other officials of the two Universities. 

The two Universities made presentations and discussed the common points of interest, which could help them initiate cooperation, such as pedagogy, phycology, language training, etc. The sides also identified the activities, which could be brought into life after signing a Memorandum of Understanding, such as staff and student exchange, arranging summer schools, conducting online and offline workshops and seminars, etc.
