On 15 February 2024, H.E. Prof. Janitha A. Liyanage, Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Russia and Mr. Pandula De Zoysa, Minister of the Embassy, met with the President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation (CCI RF) Mr. Sergey Katyrin.

The Chamber President noted the active efforts made by the Ambassador to stimulate business activities between the two countries and welcomed the cooperation of the Sri Lankan diplomatic mission with the regional Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Russia.
During the meeting, the President of the Chamber noted that he was impressed by the extensive geography of Ambassador Prof Janita Liyanage's 2022-2023 visits to various regions of the Russian Federation. In addition to meetings with the Moscow Chamber of Commerce and Industry, meetings were held with the Chambers of Commerce and Industry of the Ivanovo Region, Republic of Buryatia, Republic of Tatarstan, Chuvash Republic, Nizhny Novgorod, Kursk, and Leningrad Regions.
At the same time, as the President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation noted, the parties "have a lot to work on so that cooperation is not limited to tea trade and tourism only". The head of the Chamber called it advisable to hold a presentation in the Russian CCI on Sri Lanka's potential, the needs of its market, as well as investment and trade opportunities of the country. Mr Katyrin suggested that such a presentation be held via videoconference so that representatives of the Russian regions could join it.
The Ambassador of Sri Lanka, Prof Janitha A. Liyanage introduced the Embassy Minister, Mr. Pandula de Zoysa, who was appointed to be responsible for economic interaction between Sri Lanka and Russia. In his remarks, Mr. Pandula de Zoysa expressed his hope that it would soon be possible to agree on concrete steps to boost bilateral trade and economic relations.
The meeting was also attended by Vladimir Padalko, Vice President of the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Konstantin Kostin, Director of the Department of External Relations of the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
