Following a visit of Prof. Janitha A. Liyanage, Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Russia, to the Republic of Buryatia, the Embassy organized an online introductory meeting between the Gampaha Wickramarachchi University of Indigenous Medicine (GWUIM) and the Dorji Banzarov Buryat State University (BSU) on 06 March 2024.
At a meeting headed by Prof. Ranjana W. Seneviratne, Vice Chancellor of the GWUIM, and Mr. Aldar Damdinov, Rector of the BSU, with participation of other staff members of both Universities, the parties discussed the common areas of interest, such as oriental medicine, scientific innovations, western research for validation of traditional medicine, legal systems in both countries in relation to indigenous medicine, etc.
The Buryat State University is the only University in Russia, which incorporates oriental medicine into its programme, and it expressed active interest to the exchange of experience with their Sri Lankan counterparts, who have a centuries long tradition of indigenous medicine in the healthcare structure.
The sides expressed their willingness to collaborate in the field of students and lecturers exchange, joint research, participation in conferences, etc. As a result of the meeting the two Universities agreed to start their work on draft Memorandum of Understanding to begin knowledge exchange at the earliest.
