On February 28, 2024 H.E. the Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Russian Federation Prof. Janitha A. Liyanage accompanied by the Minister of the Embassy Mr. Pandula De Zoysa visited the Ministry of Energy of the Russian Federation. The delegation was received by the Deputy Minister of Energy Mr. Sergey Mochalnikov.

The parties discussed issues of bilateral cooperation in the fuel and energy sector. The interlocutors emphasized that Russian- Sri Lankan cooperation in the energy sector has potential for expansion. Currently the main energy cooperation between Russia and Sri Lanka is related to the coal industry. Both sides are open to proposals.
The Deputy Minister noted that the meetings with H.E. the Ambassador are held in the regular basis. He also mentioned about the strong expertise of Russian companies on construction and modernization of thermal power plants and have expressed interest in the projects be implemented in Sri Lanka.
The Sri Lankan side expressed interest in Russian experience in the nuclear industry and renewable energy sources, particularly solar and wind energy.
Following the meeting Sergey Mochalnikov invited the delegation from Sri Lanka to take part in the Russian Energy Week to be held in Moscow in September 26 - 28, 2024.
