At the invitation of the Moscow State University, four Sri Lankan students took part in the International Mendeleev Chemistry Olympiad, which took place from 20 to 27 April 2024 on the platform of the MSU-BIT University in Shenzhen, China.
The participation of the Sri Lankan team with mentor became possible with the joint efforts of the Chemistry Faculty of the Moscow State University, the Ministry of Education of Sri Lanka, the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Russia and the Chinese Communist Party.
Schoolchildren from more than 30 countries of the world participate in the event: Russia, Austria, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Brazil, Bulgaria, China, Hungary, Iran, Kazakhstan, North Macedonia, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Turkey, Sri Lanka, Cuba and others.
Apart from the official programme, the students took part in a number of cultural events such as excursions around MSU-BIT University campus and Shenzhen city, creative workshops, cultural performances and additional educational activities.
Although this year the students could not win medals in the Olympiad, the Moscow State University decided to keep in touch with the team to prepare them for the next year competition.
