In the course of her official visit to Russia, on 30 May 2024 Dr. Seetha Arambepola, Hon. State Minister of Health of Sri Lanka, visited the Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University, the oldest medical university in Russia, which has been providing higher education to students from Sri Lanka since 1980.

The Sri Lankan delegation was welcomed by Mr. Mikhail Brovko, Vice Rector for International Cooperation, and Ms. Tatiana Litvinova, Vice Rector for Education of the University. The sides discussed matters of educational, scientific cooperation and collaboration with Sri Lankan Universities. The matter of promotion of medical tourism was also raised.
The sides agreed that further discussions on strengthening cooperation in the field of healthcare and education would be arranged online with the relevant stakeholders at the earliest. In the end of the visit, the Hon. State Minister of Health was taken around the University campus and introduced to the facilities of the Research Institute of Urology, the Department of Pathological Anatomy and the Office of Robotic Operations.
