At the invitation extended by the Governor of the Kursk region, Ambassador P. M. Amza, Head of the Sri Lankan Mission in Russia, visited the Kursk region.
On July 5, 2024, Ambassador P.M Amza had a meeting with Mr. Alexei Smirnov, the acting Governor of the Kursk region. The meeting took place on the margins of the International Kursk Korensk Trade Fair.
Ambassador P.M. Amza emphasized the strong links established between Sri Lanka and the Kursk region in the sphere of education starting from 1997, and however noted that the relations in the area of trade had not grown to its potential.
Governor Alexei Smirnov, having expressed appreciation for the Ambassador's participation, stated that the Korensk Trade Fair played a significant role not only in increasing the economic potential of the Kursk region, but also in the development of interregional and international cooperation. This year the region marks 200 years of the international status of the Korensk Trade Fair, the history of which goes back over 400 years.
Ambassador P.M. Amza wished that the traditions of the fair be continued and preserved for many years to come.
Ambassador P.M. Amza noted that to test the strength of Ceylon tea, one needs to dip it in hot water. Speaking about Russia, Ambassador stressed that the country shows its strength and resilience in challenging circumstances. "We are glad that your country is prospering despite difficult situations showing economic growth," the Ambassador said.

The meeting was followed by an official lunch hosted by the Governor for the esteemed guests in a historical mansion belonging to a famous Russian poet in picturesque countryside area in the Kursk region.
