Ambassador P.M. Amza, Head of Sri Lankan Mission in Russia, "Noble teaching of Lord Buddha has become increasingly relevant to this world, which is full of conflicts."
Ambassador Pakeer Mohideen Amza, Head of Sri Lankan Mission in the Russian Federation greeted the participants of the 2nd International Buddhist Forum: "Traditional Buddhism and Modern Challenges".
"Teaching of Lord Buddha is universal and time-tested. Though the Teaching of Lord Buddha is over 25 centuries old, his thoughts remain to be relevant even to this date.
Sri Lanka is a country, which is a home of all major religions in the world, namely: Buddhism, Hinduism, Christianity and Islam. Buddhism is a religion of the majority of Sri Lankans.
Sri Lanka is also a venue for hosting the International Buddhist Conference, in which a Resolution was adopted to make the Day of Vesak, which signifies birth, enlightenment and passing away of Lord Buddha, as an International Day of Observance in the United Nations. The Resolution, which was adopted in 1999, I am happy to note, was co-sponsored by Sri Lanka and the Russian Federation, among many others.
The Teaching of Lord Buddha, which goes in parallel to the UN Charter, has become more relevant to the world than ever before.
The hatred will not be ceased by hatred but by love. Noble teaching of Lord Buddha has become increasingly relevant to this world, which is full of conflicts.
I firmly believe the proceedings in the next few days will deliberate the teachings of Lord Buddha, which is considered a solid path for peace."
