Bilateral negotiations between the delegations of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka and Ukraine on draft Treaties on Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters and Extradition
From 4th – 8th April 2016 at the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine the delegations of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka and Ukraine held negotiations with the aim to elaborate the text of the Treaty on Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters and the text of the Treaty on Extradition between the democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka and Ukraine.
The delegation of Sri Lanka was headed by Hon. Jayantha Jayasuriya, Attorney General, Attorney General’s Department while the delegation of Ukraine was headed by Hon. Sergiy Petukhov, Deputy Minister of Justice of Ukraine for European Integration.

Mr. Dulmith Waruna, Second Secretary, Embassy of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka in the Russian Federation
The negotiations were held in a constructive and friendly atmosphere. The delegations exchanged views and propositions, informed each other about their legal systems and particularities of their domestic laws. After having a fruitful and open- minded discussion, the delegations reached agreement on the provisions of the Treaties and finalized the texts of the Treaties.
On the 8th of April 2016 Heads of the delegations initialed the Treaty on Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters and the Treaty on Extradition between Sri Lanka and Ukraine.
The delegations further agreed to finalize the text of the Treaty on the Transfer of Sentenced Persons through diplomatic channels at the earliest.
During the stay in Ukraine the Sri Lanka delegation met with Mr. Yurii Sevruk, Acting Prosecutor General of Ukraine at the Prosecutor General’s Office and Mr. Ivan Prysiazhniuk, Rector of the National Academy of the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Ukraine at the National Academy of the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Ukraine.
