From 11 to 15 August 2024, a delegation from Sri Lanka, headed by Ambassador P. M. Amza , Head of the Sri Lanka Mission in Moscow, participated at the 2nd International Forum titled Traditional Buddhism and Challenges of the Modernity, which took place in the Republic of Buryatia, Russia.

The Forum gathered around 500 representatives representing 15 countries from various parts of the globe who shared their knowledge, experience and discussed issues related to spiritual development and Buddhist philosophy. They also signed Memoranda of Understanding, held talks with the local officials and participated in the rich cultural programmes.
Addressing the opening of the Forum Ambassador P. M. Amza stated that "in the conditions of the emanating multipolar world and the challenges attached to it the teaching of Lord Buddha is becoming increasingly relevant".
The Ambassador also had a bilateral meeting with the Head of the Republic, H. E. Alexey Tsydenov, during which both sides discussed the issues of bilateral cooperation in the field of religion, tourism, education and alternate medicine and agreed to work together to tighten links between Sri Lanka and the Republic of Buryatia.
The Forum also became a platform for communication of educational establishments of the two countries: Senior Prof. Pathmalal Manage, Vice Chancellor of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, signed a Cooperation Agreement with Prof. Alexey Maslov, President of the Foundation for the Promotion of Buddhist Education and Research of Russia. At the same time, Dr. Asanka Pallewata, Director of the International Center of the Gampaha Wickramarachchi University of Indigenous Medicine, signed an Agreement for Cooperation with Cand. Sc. Aldar Damdinov, Rector of the Buryat State University.
The delegation participated in multiple other events, including a wreath-laying ceremony in memory of the victims of the Second World War.
