On 18 September 2024, the Ural State University of Economics (USUE) officially opened its first Russian Language Center in Sri Lanka on the platform of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura (USJ).

Establishment of the Center became possible thanks to the joint efforts of the Ural State Economic University, the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Russia, the Embassy of Russia in Sri Lanka and the Russian House in Colombo.
The event was attended by Senior Prof. Pathmalal M. Manage, Vice Chancellor of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, H. E. Levan Jagaryan, Ambassador of Russia to Sri Lanka, Ms. Maria Popova, Head of Rossortudnichestvo office in Sri Lanka, Mr. Roman Krasnov, Vice Rector on Social Work and Youth Policy of the Ural State University of Economics and other officials, including the Rector of the USUE, who joined online, and staff and students of USJ.
This is the first Russian Center of the Ural State University of Economics in Sri Lanka, which was initiated by the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Russia, would be teaching Russian language and culture in Sri Lanka along with other Centers recently opened on the island by the Chuvash State Pedagogical University in the Gampaha Wickramarachchi University of Indigenous Medicine, the University of Vavuniya and the Helena Wijayawardhana Balika Vidyalaya.
Such strong language cooperation will further enhance bilateral collaboration between Sri Lanka and Russia on all levels.
