Following the visit of Ambassador P. M. Amza to the Republic of Buryatia in August this year, on 24 September 2024 the Embassy conducted an online meeting between Universities of Sri Lanka and Buryatia.
A wide list of participants of the meeting included Ms. Elena Urmakshinova, Acting Rector of the Buryat State University, Ven. D. G. Dashibaldanov, Rector, main lama of the Buddhist University Dashi Choynkhorling, Ms. Daria Bystrova, Head of the International Relations Department of the Buryat State Agricultural Academy, Prof. Shirantha Heenkenda, Dean, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, Prof. Ranjana W. Seneviratne, Vice Chancellor of the Gampaha Wickramarachchi University of Indigenous Medicine, Dr. Asanka Pallewatta, Director, International Center of the GWUIM and other staff of the Universities.
The representatives of the Universities introduced their institutions highlighting the special spheres of interest for cooperation, among which were traditional medicine, Buddhism and Buddhist practices, agriculture, Russian language, etc.
The sides expressed particular interest to exchange of experience, student and academic mobility, participation in conferences, joint research, internships and summer schools.
After an amicable and lively discussion, the sides concluded that they would make all necessary efforts to bring educational, scientific, religious and cultural cooperation between Sri Lanka and Republic of Buryatia to a new level.
