On October 31, 2024, the Head of the Sri Lankan Mission in Moscow Ambassador P.M. Amza paid his first visit to the Kurgan region.
Ambassador P.M. Amza and the First Deputy Governor - Head of the Governor's Office Mr. Andrei Alekseev discussed possible areas for mutually beneficial cooperation and development of socio-economic ties between Sri Lanka and the Kurgan region.

Both sides agreed that the meeting would be the first step towards friendship and cooperation between the Kurgan Region and Sri Lanka.
The meeting was also attended by Mr. Vladimir Smirnov, the Honorary Consul of Sri Lanka in the Ural region. Vladimir Kovalev, Director of the Kurgan Region Department of Economic Development, Ilya Nazarenko, President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Kurgan Region represented the regional authorities.
During the day, the Ambassador also got acquainted with the tourist and economic potential of the region, visited a number of large industrial enterprises, including LLC Kurgan Bus Manufacturing Plant, PJSC Sintez Pharmaceutical Factory, as well as the Ilizarov Orthopaedic Centre.
