On December 17, 2024, the Embassy of Sri Lanka, together with the Moscow Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI), organized a vertual meeting between the Russian entrepreneurs, manufacturers and developers of new technological products based on the use of artificial intelligence (AI), and the Urban Development Authority in order to seek the possibility of facilitating smart city projects in Sri Lanka.
The session was opened by MCCI Vice President Vladimir Mischenko praising the Embassy's enduring efforts of creating bilateral links between potential Sri Lankan and Russian companies. He noted that the current meeting was organized with the aim to share the experience of organizing a smart city using Moscow as an example with Sri Lankan colleagues and presenting new technologies used for this initiative. The Embassy was represented by Mr. Chamila Jayarathna, Minister/Education & Trade and, during his address he emphasised the growing potential that UDA could reap from Russia in the areas of modern tecnologies such as AI when it comes to smart city planing and development in Sri Lanka.
Further, Moscow based entrepreneurs made presentations of their products, such as software for measurement of a reputation based on social nets data analisys; video surveillance for large cities including face recognition systems; secure communication solutions; data analising software aimed at optimizing business processes based on artificial intelligence; multimodal logistic aggregator based on artificial intelligence usage.
In return Urban Development Authority Director General expressed interest in implementation of the presented products in Sri Lanka. The sides agreed to proceed with further discussions upon the receipt of formal proposals from the Russian side.
