On 04 February 2025, the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Russia organized celebration of the 77th anniversary of the Independence Day of Sri Lanka.
The programme included hoisting of national flag, singing the national anthem, observing two minutes silence, conducting multi faith religious observances with participation of Buddhist, Hindu, Muslim and Christian clergy. The diplomats of the Embassy read out the messages of His Excellency
Anura Kumara Dissanayake President of Sri Lanka, Hon. Dr Harini Amarasuriya, Prime Minister, Hon. Vijitha Herath, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism.
Citing H. E. the President, Mr. Chamila Jayarathna, Chargé d'Affaires a. i., underlined that "both individually and collectively, we must build a modern, developed Sri Lankan nation, guided by social, environmental, and ethical principles". Group Captain Sanoj Jayaratne, Councellor, Defence of the Mission, also made a brief presentation on Clean Sri Lanka, a new national project of Sri Lanka aimed at addressing a cleaner physical environment and a nationwide moral commitment to enhance ethical principles.
The event gathered Sri Lankan students of Russian Universities and representatives of the Sri Lankan community in Moscow, who could enjoy friendly conversations and traditional refreshments after the end of the official programme.
