On 10 February 2025, the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Russia represented by Group Captain Sanoj Jayaratne, Counsellor (Defence), participated in the celebrations of the Kursk State Medical University (KSMU) dedicated to its 90th anniversary.
Since its foundation in 1935 about 70,000 doctors, pharmacists and other healthcare professionals graduated from the University and more than 9,000 students, residents and postgraduates from 50 countries study in the KSMU annually.
The Embassy representative participated in an excursion around the University and the festive Concert together with Hon. M. A. Murashko, Minister of Health of the Russian Federation, Mr. A. Chepik, Acting First Deputy Governor – Chairman of the Government of the Kursk region, and other officials, including diplomats from other countries. In his speech, Gp. Capt. Jayaratne congratulated Prof. V. A. Lazarenko on the significant milestone of the University history and expressed gratitude for the continuous care for Sri Lankan and other international students, as well as development of educational and scientific links with Sri Lanka.
The Kursk State Medical University for many years has been giving high quality education to many Sri Lankan students, currently about 165 are reading for their degrees in the University. It has also signed 3 Memoranda of Understanding with Sri Lankan Universities and continues strengthening the links with the country in the sphere of healthcare.
