Ambassador Shobini Gunasekera paid a courtesy call on Mr. Maxim Baranov, Director General of the Second Asian Department on 12.03.2025 at the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Moscow.

At the outset, Ambassador Gunasekera expressed appreciation for the strong bilateral relations between Sri Lanka and Russia covering multiple sectors of political, economic, culture and education most importantly the strong bond of friendship developed between our people. She also highlighted the upcoming 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries, which will be celebrated on February 19, 2027, emphasizing the need to commemorate this occasion in a fitting manner.
The discussion underscored the importance of organizing the next bilateral political consultations and the Inter-Governmental Commission (IGC) to elevate cooperation in the political and economic spheres to new heights. Matters related to consular and labor issues were also discussed at the meeting.
