Continuing the diplomatic outreach, Ambassador Shobini Gunasekera in Belarus had a series of engagements aimed at strengthening educational and tourism cooperation between the two countries.

As part of her visit, Ambassador Gunasekera was honored to participate in the graduation ceremonies of Grodno State Medical University and Gomel State Medical University, where she addressed the graduating students and faculty members. In her remarks, the Ambassador congratulated the graduates and emphasized the importance of international collaboration in the field of medical education and research. Particularly 215 medical doctors from Sri Lanka graduated from the University of Grodno signifying the importance of educational ties between the two nations.
Following the ceremonies, the Ambassador held discussions with the leadership of both universities. These meetings focused on expanding academic and research partnerships between Sri Lankan and Belarusian institutions, including in the areas of medical education, student and lecturers exchange programs, and collaborative research.
Marking the milestone of 25th Anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations between the countries, the Sri Lankan Cultural Centre was opened in the State Medical University of Gomel celebrating diversity and a commitment to fostering cross – cultural understanding. The event was presided over by Ambassador Gunasekera and Rector of the University Prof. Igor Stoma. Sri Lankan Tourism Promotion Bureau and Central Cultural Fund as well as Sri Lankan tea exporters from Moscow contributed to the collection of items for display. The opening of the cultural center is a part of a broader initiative to deepen academic and cultural ties between the two countries.
Ambassador Gunasekera was also invited by the Grodno University Administration to visit the hostels of foreign students to ensure their well-being and have a lively discussion with Sri Lankan students on the achievements in the academic and extra-curricular life. The visit was also marked by a tree planting ceremony involving the Sri Lanka student's community in the Alley of Glory.
In line with efforts to boost tourism and people-to-people connectivity, Ambassador Gunasekera also held strategic meetings with senior officials of Belavia Airlines and leading Belarusian tour operators. The discussions explored the possibility of flight connectivity and enhancing accessibility for Belarusian tourists seeking to experience Sri Lanka's diverse tourism offerings, including wellness, cultural, and eco-tourism.
The visit reflects Sri Lanka's proactive approach to fostering multi-sectoral cooperation with Belarus, in alignment with national priorities such as education, healthcare, and sustainable tourism.
