Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Russian Federation Shobini Gunasekera had a meeting with the Deputy Minister of Labour and Social Protection of the Russian Federation Dmitry Platygin.

The discussion was held timely in view of the increasing demand for skilled and semi-skilled labour in Russia, and the capacity of Sri Lanka to meet the demand with a well-prepared labour force to cater key sectors such as light industry, agriculture, construction and hospitality.
During the meeting, both parties touched upon the procedures currently in place for the recruitment of foreign workers into the Russian Federation and inquired the mutual advantage of establishing Government-to-Government Labour Agreement.
The meeting was followed by a visit of the Chairman of the Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Bureau and Chairman of the Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Agency to 7 regions of Russia to explore the accruing opportunities.
