
Ambassador Shobini Gunasekera, concurrently accredited to the Republic of Belarus, held a number of meetings with Belarus authorities including the National Center for Marketing, the Belarus Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and Bellegprom Concern, aimed at exploring avenues for economic cooperation and employment opportunities for Sri Lankan skilled work force in Belarus.
During the meeting with Ambassador Nikolai Borysevich, Director General of the National Centre for Marketing operating under the purview of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus, both parties recognized that direct air connectivity would further encourage business cooperation between Sri Lanka and Belarus.
The Centre with expertise in foreign economic engagement acts as a "one stop shop" in promoting trade and investment opportunities' with third countries. The parties discussed upcoming major international events in Sri Lanka namely: Sri Lanka Economic and Investment Summit and Sri Lanka Expo 2026 and developing renewed interactions between the trade chambers of both countries in exploring opportunities for growth.
A productive meeting was also held with Mikhail Miatlikov, Chairman of Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The parties committed to revitalize the existing ties between the Chambers of both countries and identified agriculture, pharmaceuticals, light industry, and tourism as most promising areas for mutually beneficial cooperation.
During the visit to BELLEGPROM CONCERN and meeting with Deputy Chairman Natallia Murashko, discussions centered on possible foreign employment opportunities and joint projects in garments and light industries.
The country presents promising avenues for partnership that can strengthen bilateral trade, create employment opportunities and foster sustainable economic growth.
