
The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Moscow commenced official duties for the year 2026 with the hoisting of the National Flag by Ambassador Shobini Gunasekera, followed by the singing of the National Anthem. A two-minute silence was observed in honor of war heroes and all those who made the ultimate sacrifice for the motherland.
The staff of the Embassy collectively reaffirmed their commitment to public service by reciting the Public Servants' Oath, underscoring their dedication to integrity, accountability, and service to the nation.
Addressing the staff, Ambassador Gunasekera reviewed and evaluated the performance of the Embassy acknowledging collective efforts and achievements to date. She outlined the key objectives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Embassies abroad, emphasizing the promotion of good bilateral and multilateral relations, facilitation of employment opportunities for Sri Lankans, enhancement of tourism and trade, strengthening of institutional capacity, good governance and improving disaster preparedness and readiness. Ambassador encouraged all officers and staff to preserve and further enhance the Embassy's accomplishments while adapting innovative thinking and modern approaches to meet emerging challenges and future opportunities.
The proceedings concluded with a traditional Kiribath table, symbolizing auspicious beginnings and unity, reflecting Sri Lanka's rich culture.
