The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Moscow celebrated the Vesak celebrations on 21st May 2016 at the Embassy premises with the participation of several Buddhist monks, Ambassador Dr. Saman Weerasinghe with the Embassy staff and their families, Sri Lankan community and students in Moscow, media personnel and other devotees.
Embassy organized a special Vesak Lantern Competition with the participation of Sri Lankan student of several Higher Education Institutes in Moscow including Moscow Power Engineering Institute, Moscow Automobile and Road Construction Institute, Russian People's Friendship University, 2nd Medical University named after N.I. Piragov, Bauman Moscow State Technological University.
Russian People's Friendship University won the first place of the Vesak lantern competition and 2nd Medical University named after N.I. Piragov won the second place.
Embassy premise were decorated with Vesak lanterns, Buddhist flags and colourful electric bulbs.
