Embassy of Sri Lanka in Moscow commemorated 69th Anniversary of the Independence Day of Sri Lanka on 4th February 2017 at the Chancery with the hoisting of the national flag by Ambassador Dr. Saman Weerasinghe and singing the national anthem in Sinhala and Tamil followed by two minute silence observed in honour of all the national heroes who have sacrificed their lives for the country.
Multi-faith religious observances were conducted by the religious dignitaries representing the Buddhist, Hindu, Christian and Islamic faiths.
National Day messages of His Excellency the President, Hon. Prime Minister and Hon. Minister of Foreign Affairs Affairs of Sri Lanka were also read in Sinhala and Tamil.
Over 120 guests including Sri Lankan student and business community living in Russia and other personnel from different sectors who helped the Embassy's activities participated at this event. Addressing the gathering, Dr. Saman Weerasinghe stated that how important the duty of Sri Lankan students towards Motherland and briefed the Government policy on development on Sri Lanka as well as the importance of National Unity.
At the end of the event traditional refreshments were served to the gathering.
