In the framework of the official visit of H. E. Maithripala Sirisena, President of Sri Lanka, to Russia, Hon. Dayasiri Jayasekara, Minister of Sport of Sri Lanka, met with his Russian counterpart Hon. Pavel Kolobkov, Minister of Sport of the Russian Federation, to discuss cooperation between two countries in the field of sports
During the meeting both sides discussed the possibility of inviting Russian coaches, trainers and instructors for shooting, weightlifting, gymnastics, basketball, hand ball, football, swimming, wrestling, athletics (throwing events) and organization of training programs on these kinds of sport for Sri Lankan players.
Heads of both Ministries also talked about opportunities and platforms which could be used for promotion of cooperation between Sri Lanka and Russia in the sphere of sport medicine and explored the possibility of organization of trainings for lecturers/instructors of the National Institute of Sports Science (NISS) of Sri Lanka for enhancement of their technical skills, knowledge etc.
During the meeting Hon. Minister of Sport of Sri Lanka Dayasiri Jayasekara mentioned that Sri Lanka is famous for its cricket players all over the world and it would be an honor to send Sri Lankan trainers to Russia for training Russian athletes.
