In the framework of the official visit of the Sri Lankan delegation to the International Military Technical Forum "Army-2017" held in Moscow on August 22-24, 2017, the Secretary of the Ministry of Defence of Sri Lanka Mr. Kapila Waidyaratne met with Deputy Minister of Defence of the Russian Federation Lieutenant-General Alexander Fomin on August 23, 2017.

 During the meeting, the topical issues of Russian-Sri Lankan military and military-technical cooperation were discussed, as well as the next steps to be taken for their further development. Agreements have been reached to expand ties in the field of military education and to arrange courses for Sri Lankan servicemen to study at military educational institutions under the Ministry of Defence of Russia.
The talks confirmed the spirit of the parties for the further development of relations between the defence departments.
The Sri Lankan delegation led by Mr. Kapila Waidyaratne also included Mr. Sarath Kumara, Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Defence of Sri Lanka, Air Vice Marshal D. L. S. Dias, Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Air Force, Group Captain J. P. Balasooriya, SLAF Command Research and Development Officer, Lieutenant Commander Eranga Buddhika, ADC to the Secretary as well as Group Captain Channa Dissanayake, Counsellor (Defence) of the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Moscow.
