On November 1, Ambassador Dr. Dayan Jayatilleka was among the high-ranking guests of a special presentation hosted by the Governor of Moscow Region. The presentation, organized under the auspices of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs for international diplomatic and business community, took place in the elegant neo-gothic MFA Guest House.
By symbolic coincidence, this mansion used to belong to the spouse of Savva Morozov, one of pillar industrialists and philanthropists of the turbulent pre-revolution Russia.
Foreign Minister H. E. Sergey Lavrov followed by Moscow Region Governor H. E. Andrey Vorobiev addressed the audience with welcome remarks noting the vast investment opportunities developing and emerging in Moscow Region. One of the busiest entities of the Russian Federation, with a territory larger than Switzerland or the Netherlands, and population of about 1/3 of that of Sri Lanka, the region has natural business and infrastructural interaction with the Russian capital. The thematic exhibition presented at the event highlighted focus areas of potential international cooperation: agriculture modernization, urban and inter-city transport, residential projects, to name just a few.
The business and investment opportunities, along with exchanges of experiences in urban and rural development, infrastructure building alongside environment conservation, and other related areas would certainly be a commendable field of prospective cooperation between Moscow Region and Sri Lankan Government and private sector stakeholders.
