On December 14, H.E. Dr.Dayan Jayatilleka Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka to the Russian Federation paid courtesy calls on Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam to the Russian Federation, H.E. Ngo Duc Manh, and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Mexico, Norma B. Pensado Moreno.
Ambassador Ngo Duc Manh underlined that Sri Lanka was one of the first countries to establish diplomatic relations with Vietnam and the importance of solidarity and firm support Sri Lanka provided during the Vietnamese struggle for freedom and independence.
The two Ambassadors discussed the global situation in Asia, and principles of friendship with the neighbouring countries, dynamics of"Indo-Pacific" and "Asia-Pacific" regions.
Ambassador Jayatilleka highlighted the importance of multipolarity in foreign policy within Asia, and the significance of regional cooperation. Ambassador Ngo Duc Manh laid emphasis on the strategic location of the countries within the most dynamic economy region, the negative effect of sanctions upon the global economic situation and the necessity to balance options and achieve stability.
The bilateral meeting with the Vietnamese Ambassador was followed by a meeting with the Mexican Ambassador, H.E. Norma B.Pensado Moreno, who served as the Ambassador to the Republic of Finland, to the Kingdom of Sweden, and Deputy Minister for Latin America and the Caribbean before she assumed her duties in Moscow. The two Ambassadors discussed the situation in Latin America in the light of the spectacular victory of President Lopez Obrador and his party, and the prospects and prospectives that have opened up.
