The Head of the Department of International Cooperation of the South Ural State University, Ms. Yuliya Valeryevna Shmotina called on Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Russia H.E. Dr. Dayan Jayatilleka 17 October, 2019 at the Embassy. The South Ural State University (SUSU) was founded in 1943, in the midst of the Second World War, when most of the enterprises were transferred to the Eastern part of Russia with the aim of providing scientific and technical assistance to the Soviet Army.
During the meeting the representative of the University informed that there are more than 2500 students from 52 countries currently obtaining education in the institution, as well as described the wide range of facilities available both to Russian and international students. The SUSU provides Bachelor's, Master's and Postgraduate education in the fields of architecture, construction, electronic engineering and computer science, medical biology, economics, management, natural sciences and mathematics, sport, tourism, service, law, etc.
Ms. Shmotina underlined that one of the priority pillars of development of the University is to strengthen the international cooperation. Therefore, the Administration of the University is particularly interested in enhancing the number of students as well as academia from Sri Lanka.
H.E. Dr. Dayan Jayatilleka expressed the interest of the Sri Lankan side for further cooperation with the University and pledged to extend the fullest support to the University Administration in cementing the relations. H. E. the Ambassador was glad to find out that a student from Sri Lanka, Mr. Uvindu Wijeweera, is heading the Association of International Students, which organizes large-scale national and cultural events in the University and assists foreign students to adopt to the new environment.
Concluding the meeting both parties agreed to facilitate each other in enhancing the cooperation in the future. H. E. the Ambassador further requested his staff members to continue the discussion and inform the outcome to the relevant institutes in Sri Lanka. Mr. Mohamed Anas, Counsellor of the Embassy, Ms. Nirosha Kumari, Second Secretary of the Embassy and Ms. Nayomi Chandrasiri, Consular officer also participated at the meeting.
