On January 9, 2020 the Embassy of Sri Lanka in the Russian Federation held an official ceremony on the occasion of the commencement of the Mission's operations in the year of 2020, as the first week of January had been observed as national New Year and Christmas holidays.
The ceremony began with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Sri Lanka to Russia H. E. Dr. Dayan Jayatilleka hoisting the National Flag of Sri Lanka in presence of the home-based and locally recruited staff of the Mission, followed by singing of the National Anthem.
The officers, present at the ceremony, observed two minutes of silence to commemorate the war heroes and those who sacrificed their lives for the sake of the Motherland and read out the Oath of Public Servants, pledging their commitment to serve honestly and efficiently for the betterment of Sri Lanka and its people.
While addressing the staff members, Ambassador Dayan Jayatilleka urged them to enhance the contribution to the development of bilateral relations between Sri Lanka and Russia in various spheres. Further, he emphasized to utilize the opportunity of serving in one of the most important world capitals to obtain invaluable professional experience.
Upon the conclusion of the official part of the ceremony, the staff of the Diplomatic Mission was invited to enjoy traditional Sri Lankan refreshments.
