It is famous for being an alma mater for students from more than 158 countries, which makes it one of the most internationally diverse higher education institutions in Russia.

To celebrate its 60th anniversary, the RUDN University gathered students, faculty staff members, graduates and friends of the University for a Gala Concert at the State Kremlin Palace in Moscow on February 8, 2020. Among the guests were also representatives of the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Russia, namely, Second Secretary (Political Affairs) Ms. Nirosha Herath, Second Secretary (Commercial) Ms. Chathurika Perera, and Consular Officer (Education Affairs) Ms. Nayomi Chandrasiri.

Furthermore, the guests of the event were shown a documentary film, covering the history of the RUDN University.
Particularly, the celebration of the university's 60th anniversary provided an opportunity for the Embassy officials to meet Sri Lankan currently enrolled students and graduates, who shared their thoughts on the academic process and the lifestyle as a part of the international student community at the People's Friendship University of Russia, which, over the years, has provided thousands of Sri Lankans with top quality education in various spheres, from medicine to engineering.
