The 27th International Exhibition for Food, Beverages, and Food Raw Materials - PRODEXPO 2020 – started on February 10, 2020 in Moscow. The Exhibition will be held until February 14, 2020 at the Expocentre Fairground in Moscow. This year PRODEXPO brought together 2 600 exhibitors from 70 countries and expects 67 000 visitors from 112 countries.
The Ceylon tea stand was officially opened by Mr. Mohamed Anas, Charge d'Affairs of the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Russia, Ms. Chathurika Perera, Second Secretary (Commercial) and delegates of Sri Lankan tea companies. Mr. Mohamed Anas participated in the ribbon-cutting ceremony to declare the Ceylon tea stand open. The official part was followed by refreshments and informal discussions of the plans and the new ways to explore the food market and promote Ceylon tea in Russia.
The PRODEXPO exhibition, which is annually held in Moscow, is a major international show of food and drinks in Russia and Eastern Europe. It is considered to be the most popular platform for foreign enterprises to establish direct connections with retailers, distributors and other representatives of various industries from essential food and beverages to organic, sport and healthy food, halal, kosher, and exotic products.
As in previous years, the Tea Promotion Unit of the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Russia with the support of the Sri Lanka Tea Board organized a Ceylon Tea stand, representing Sri Lankan tea companies such as UHE Exports (Pvt) Ltd., Unitrades (Pvt) Ltd., Ceylon Fresh Teas (Pvt) Ltd., Ceylon Tea Land (Pvt) Ltd., Jafferjee Brothers who came to display their products.
Tea companies including Hyleys Tea, Leoste Tea, Maltras International, Unitea, Femrich Lanka (Pvt) Ltd., Sebas tea, Basilur Tea, Dilmah Ceylon Tea Company PLC, Imperial Teas (Pvt) Ltd., Shan Teas (Pvt) Ltd., Stassen Exports (Pvt) Ltd., Elite Brand Ltd are also participating in PRODEXPO 2020 this week.
The first day of the Exhibition was concluded by dinner hosted by Mr. Mohamed Anas and embassy officials for PRODEXPO participants from Sri Lanka. Mr. Mohamed Anas thanked the gathering for their efforts to promote Ceylon tea and develop mutually-beneficial cooperation between the countries. The tea traders in their turn extended gratitude to the Embassy for the support and hospitality.
