This week, the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Moscow completed the delivery of dry rations to a number of Sri Lankan students from universities across Moscow, Moscow region, as well as from the distant cities of Penza and Kazan who are currently sheltered in and around Moscow.
Outreaching to the faraway locations of the vast Moscow region with a territory exceeding that of Switzerland, with half a thousand miles run within two days, the Embassy team was happy to see the proud faces (though responsibly covered by protective masks) of a hundred of young Sri Lankans who are doing their best to pursue their studies in a variety of universities by distance, despite the hardship of pandemic.
This highly timely project was made possible because of the Sri Lankan philanthropists living in the Russian Federation. The embassy extends its gratitude to the flagship initiative of Sri Lanka's business community in Russia, the Sri Lanka Russia Business Council and its former President, Mr. Hiran Karunaratne of Hayleys Tea, who devoted his personal attention to the funding and purchase of the rations, while the Embassy extended its coordination and logistic support to ensure the swift delivery of this aid thanks to joint effort of Sri Lankan and Russian personnel.
