On June 18, 2020 Ambassador-Designate Prof. M.D. Lamawansa paid a visit to Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Second Asia Department, which oversees Sri Lanka, in addition to seven other Asian countries. Ambassador-Designate Lamawansa was received by H.E. Zamir Kabulov, Director of the Department.
During the meeting Ambassador-Designate Lamawansa and Director H.E. Kabulov spoke about the warm and friendly relationship established between the countries over the decades. They emphasized the areas for further actions to facilitate bilateral relations in political, economic, cultural, and medical spheres.
Director Kabulov expressed sincere hope that the new leadership of Sri Lanka will bring the country to further prosperity.
The call on Second Asia Department was preceded by a visit to the State Protocol Department earlier last week. Ambassador-Designate M.D. Lamawansa was welcomed by Director of the Department H.E. Igor Bogdashev, who introduced the function of the protocol division, and highlighted a number of topics of mutual concern to be explored.
