On July 20, 2020 Ambassador-Designate Prof. M.D. Lamawansa accompanied by Mr. Mohamed Anas, Counsellor and HOC, and Ms. Chathurika Perera, Second Secretary (Commercial) visited Russia-Sri Lanka Friendship Society (RSLFS) in Moscow. The guests were received by Mr. Vladimir Polozkov, Deputy Chairman of RSLFS Board and RAIC General Secretary, and Ms. Marina Korosteleva, RSLFS Board member. The meeting took place in the office of the Russian Association for International Cooperation (RAIC) at the Federation Council of the Russian Federation.
Mr. Vladimir Polozkov, who previously lived in Sri Lanka and worked in the Russian Center for Science and Culture in Colombo, spoke in his opening remarks of traditionally warm ties and friendly relationship between Russia and Sri Lanka. He emphasized that among the members of RSLFS board there are 4 former Ambassadors of Russia to Sri Lanka and representatives of Russian business community. Vladimir Polozkov stressed that Friendship Society is targeted at strengthening cooperation of the countries in various fields and assured that Embassy of Sri Lanka can always count on RSLFS as on friends.
Ambassador-Designate Prof. M.D. Lamawansa thanked the Russian colleagues for the warm welcome and spoke about the importance of cooperation in cultural, political, economic, military and educational spheres, including public diplomacy.
During the meeting the parties discussed the investment opportunities to be explored in Sri Lanka and activities to be implemented further on.
