On October 05, 2020 the first video-conference was held between the Medical Faculty of University of Peradeniya and Moscow City Clinical 52 at the facilitation of Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Russian Federation Prof. M.D. Lamawansa and the Embassy team, including Mr. Mohamed Anas, Deputy Head of Mission and Ms. Nirosha Herath, First Secretary of the Embassy for political, education and cultural matters.
Moscow City Clinical Hospital was represented by its President Prof. Vladimir Vtorenko, Dr. Darya Fomina, Head of Center for Allergy and Immunology, Dr. Oleg Kotenko, Head of Moscow City Clinical and Scientific Center for Nephrology and Kidney Transplant Pathology, and Ms. Tatiana Kirillova, Head of International Cooperation Department.
From the University of Peradeniya Prof. Asiri Abeygunawardana, Dean of the Medical Faculty, Dr. Thushara Kudagammaana, expert in Paediatric Allergies and Immunology, Dr. Shenal Thalgahagoda, Paediatric Nephrologist, Dr. Rajith Abeysekera, Adult Nephrologist, Dr. Sulochana Wijethunga, Renal Pathologist, Prof. Sanjaya Adhikari, expert in Immunology, Dr. Champa Ratnatunga, expert in Microbiology, Laboratory Immunology, took part in an online discussion.
In his introductory words, Ambassador Prof. M.D. Lamawansa underlined the first steps done to establish links between the two institutions and the countries in general.
Prof. Asiri Abeygunawardena made the overview of the University of Peradeniya with the largest Medical Faculty in Sri Lanka. In his presentation, the Dean of the Medical Faculty spoke about the main activity of the Center for Education, Research and Training on Kidney Diseases, with the specific attention to the prevalence of chronic kidney disease of unknown origin in the country.
Prof. Thushara Kudagammana delivered a presentation on paediatric allergic diseases and asthma in Sri Lanka, highlighting the pressing issues and developments with regard to diagnostics and therapeutic options, training and research.
Dr. Champa Ratnatunga made a presentation on covering the general information on Laboratory Immunology, laboratory infrastructure, and specified the areas where diagnostics and research capabilities need to be further developed.
Dr. Darya Fomina made the overview of clinical and scientific resources of the regional center for allergy and immunology, focal problems and achievements, and ongoing projects on international cooperation.
Dr. Oleg Kotenko spoke about the history of Moscow City Clinical and Scientific Center of Nephrology, Kidney Transplant Pathology and Urology, developed methodology, cumulative experience, structure and innovative multidisciplinary telemedicine approaches of the center.
During the video-discussion, the meeting participants specified the areas and aspects for further collaboration in the format of experts' opinions exchange, online interaction, research and education, and touched upon the signing of MOU between the University and the Hospital.
Ambassador Prof. M.D. Lamawansa, Prof. Vladimir Vtorenko, President of the Hospital and Prof. Asiri Abeygunawardana, Dean of the Medical Faculty, Peradeniya University conveyed gratitude to all the participants of the video-conference for their readiness to cooperate and underlined that the discussion conducted was the very beginning for the prospective and fruitful collaboration.
