On 16 February 2023, the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Moscow organized an introductory online meeting between the Saint Petersburg State University (SPSU) and Rajarata University to discuss the possibility of establishment of a Russian Language Centre in the Rajarata University.
In the course of the meeting, the SPSU and Rajarata University introduced their programmes and facilities, particularly emphasizing the language training programmes on undergraduate and course levels.
Dr. Chinthaka Karalliyadda, Director of the International Relations Unit of the Rajarata University expressed the interest of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities to establishment of Russian Language Centre on the platform of the University in partnership with SPSU.
Ms. Svetlana Bolottseva, Special Projects Executive of the Language Testing Centre under SPSU, expressed her support to the initiative and proposed establishment of online and later offline course of Russian language taught by the joint efforts of the two Universities.
Prof. Janitha A. Liyanage, H. E. the Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Russian Federation, noted that the Embassy is ready to facilitate any collaboration between the two Universities and is thankful to both sides for their interest to developing sustainable educational collaboration.
The sides agreed to continue their communication and work out the roadmap to make the initiative a success.
