December 17, 2019 marked the farewell reception, hosted by Dr. Dayan Jayatilleka, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka to the Russian Federation, who will be completing his tenure in mid-January 2020.
The reception gathered many officials of the Russian government, including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation, as well as senior scholars from universities and research institutes, Ambassadors and members of the Sri Lanka-Russia Friendship Society. The event was notably attended by H. E. Eleonora Mitrofanova, Head of the Federal Agency for the Commonwealth of Independent States, Compatriots Living Abroad, and International Cultural Cooperation (Rossotrudnichestvo).

On December 10, 2019 the Civic Chamber of the Russian Federation hosted the international conference "From Inequality to Justice: World Experience and Solutions for Russia". Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Russia H.E. Dr. Dayan Jayatilleka accompanied by Madame Sanja Jayatilleka attended the Conference at the invitation of Sergey Ordzhonikidze, Secretary of the Civic Chamber of Russia and Chairman of the Russian Public Council of International Cooperation and Public Diplomacy.

On December 9, 2019 Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Russia H. E. Dr. Dayan Jayatilleka and Madame Sanja Jayatilleka attended a concert, performed by the Quintet of Mr. Igor Butman, internationally known as Russia's number one jazz personality and a virtuoso saxophonist. In June 2000, he performed in the Kremlin for President of Russia Vladimir Putin and the then President of the USA Bill Clinton during the latter's visit to Russia. President Clinton, himself a saxophonist, called Mr. Igor Butman "my favourite saxophonist anywhere in the world". In 2011 the musician was awarded a rank of People's Artist of Russian Federation for outstanding services to the Russian music by the decree of the then President of Russia Dmitry Medvedev.
