On 15 February 2025 Mr. Chamila Jayarathna, Сhargé d'Affaires a.i. of the Embassy of Sri Lanka in the Russian Federation, participated in the Awarding Ceremony of Certificate in Russian Language to the students of the University of Vavuniya.
The courses lasted from 13 September to 28 October 2024, and out of 35 students who joined them 31 students successfully completed the programme. The courses were organized in the framework of the fruitful collaboration between the University of Vavuniya and the Chuvash State Pedagogical University, which was initiated by the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Russia in 2022.
The participants of the ceremony were addressed by H. E. Levan Dzhagaryan, Ambassador of Russia to Sri Lanka, as well as Professor A. Atputharajah, Vice Chancellor, University of Vavuniya, and Dr. Svetlana Ilyuna, Vice Rector for Academic Affairs, Chuvash State Pedagogical University, who joined online.
In his address, Mr. Chamila Jayarathna warmly welcomed the guests of the event and called on the students to become a bridge that connects the two nations. He also noted that the access to Russian language and culture would enhance their possibilities in the future, including in the fields of trade, culture and tourism.
