On 07 June 2022 Prof. Janitha A. Liyanage, H. E. the Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Russian Federation, welcomed in the Embassy a delegation from the Institute of Asian and African Studies under the Moscow State University, headed by Prof. Alexey Maslov, Acting Director of the Institute. Representatives of the Department of International Cooperation, Department of Indian Philology and Department of South Asian History also joined the meeting.

Institute of Asian and African Studies under MSU is the only higher education institution in Russia currently teaching one of the official languages of Sri Lanka – Sinhala language, as well as other 30 rare Asian languages. The Institute prepares specialists in the sphere of international politics, culture, religion, it is also the think-tank of the Russian Government on Asian and African countries matters.
During the meeting, sides discussed cooperation between the Institute of Asian and African Studies and the Sri Lankan universities, establishment of links with Sri Lankan counterparts in the field of science, education, joint programmes and other initiatives to improve bilateral cooperation.
