On February 6, 2019 Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Russian Federation H.E. Dr. Dayan Jayatilleka visited Ambassador of the State of Palestine, H.E. Abdel Hafiz Nofal, who previously served as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Palestine to the Republic of South Africa and Deputy Minister of the Ministry of National Economy before he assumed his duties as the Head of Mission in Moscow.

Ambassador Jayatilleka recollected that during his term as a permanent representative of Sri Lanka at UNESCO in France Sri Lanka was among those countries that prominently supported Palestine to achieve membership in UNESCO.
The two Heads of Missions had a serious discussion on Israeli-Palestinian Peace and the 'two-state solution'. The Ambassador of Palestine was an active member of Oslo peace talks and visited the White House in Washington D.C. to work out a framework for a permanent agreement.
Ambassador H.E. Abdel Hafiz Nofal explained that Palestinian unity talks will take place in Moscow in the coming days and that the PLO hopes that Russia will play a pivotal role in the search for a peaceful settlement of the longstanding Israel-Palestine problem.
