On April 9, 2019 Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Russian Federation H.E. Dr. Dayan Jayatilleka paid a courtesy call on the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to the Russian Federation H.E. Woo Yoon Keun, a veteran politician with a doctoral degree in Law who served as Secretary-General of the National Assembly and held other major posts in the National Assembly during his three consecutive terms as a lawmaker. As a representative of the New Politics Alliance for Democracy (NPAD) Ambassador Woo Yoon Keun was a prominent policymaker of the NPAD.

 

Ambassador Woo Yoon Keun mentioned that diplomatic relations between the Republic of Korea and Sri Lanka were established in 1987 and emphasized that the countries have great potential for further mutually beneficial cooperation in different spheres.
The Heads of Missions spoke about the issue of peace and reunification on the Korean Peninsula and Ambassador Woo Yoon Keun highlighted the importance to establish a dialogue in order to reduce tensions and achieve the completion of Peninsula denuclearization.
Ambassador Jayatilleka expressed appreciation of the current President of the Republic of Korea H.E. Moon Jae-In saying that he gives an example to the whole world of how to reach out and conduct matters of peace building.
The two Heads of Mission also shared their views on the current global situation and Asia in particular. Ambassador Woo Yoon Keun expressed the policy of the Government of the Republic of Korea that more accurate study of the issues related to Indo-Pacific initiative is required in order to work out the position in the matter, and that the Republic of Korea is preferentially inclined towards demilitarized or non-militaristic outcomes.
