The discussions focused on advancing bilateral relations through several key initiatives, including the proposed visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs , Foreign Employment and Tourism of Sri Lanka to Belarus, the convening of Political Consultations between the two Ministries of Foreign Affairs, and the holding of the Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation later this year.

The Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Russian Federation participated in the Second Vgosti Hospitality Forum held in Vologda on 26-27 March 2026, underscoring Sri Lanka’s commitment to strengthening tourism cooperation and regional partnerships with the Russian Federation.

A presentation highlighting Sri Lanka’s trade, economic, and investment potential was held at the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

The Ambassador of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka to the Russian Federation with concurrent accreditation to the Republic of Belarus, Shobini Gunasekera, presented Letters of Credence to His Excellency Aleksandr Lukashenko, the President of the Republic of Belarus at a solemn ceremony held at the Independence Palace in Minsk.

A meeting was held between the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Moscow and the Moscow Export Center, co-headed by Ambassador Shobini Gunasekera and Mr. Vitaly Stepanov the Chief Executive Officer of Moscow Export Center, to explore avenues for enhanced economic collaboration and trade promotion.

Discussions focused on identifying mutually beneficial opportunities for cooperation, particularly in facilitating the participation of Russian enterprises in major commercial events in Sri Lanka. In this regard, the Sri Lankan side extended an invitation to the Moscow Export Center to take part in Sri Lanka Expo 2026, accompanied by a business delegation, with a view to strengthening trade linkages and fostering direct business-to-business engagements.
