A meeting was held between the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Moscow and the Moscow Export Center, co-headed by Ambassador Shobini Gunasekera and Mr. Vitaly Stepanov the Chief Executive Officer of Moscow Export Center, to explore avenues for enhanced economic collaboration and trade promotion.

Discussions focused on identifying mutually beneficial opportunities for cooperation, particularly in facilitating the participation of Russian enterprises in major commercial events in Sri Lanka. In this regard, the Sri Lankan side extended an invitation to the Moscow Export Center to take part in Sri Lanka Expo 2026, accompanied by a business delegation, with a view to strengthening trade linkages and fostering direct business-to-business engagements.

Sri Lanka’s Minister of Transport, Highways and Urban Development, Bimal Rathnayake, led a series of high-level discussions on the sidelines of the International Transport and Logistics Forum in St. Petersburg to advance bilateral and multilateral cooperation in transport, aviation, urban development, and sustainable mobility. The engagements, held with counterparts from Russia, Belarus, and Kazakhstan, focused on expanding connectivity, modernizing urban transport systems, and fostering capacity building and knowledge exchange to support Sri Lanka’s transport modernization agenda.

The Minister of Transport, Highways and Urban Development, Bimal Rathnayake delivered a keynote on Transport Connectivity as the Foundation of a New World Order, emphasizing a shift from global competition to universal security at the International Transport and Logistics Forum in St. Petersburg. In addressing the Forum the Minister emphasized that true security rests on interconnected infrastructure such as deep-sea cables, high capacity ports, and seamless logistics that hinder conflict and promote peace through interdependence.

The Ambassador of Sri Lanka, Shobini Gunasekera held productive discussions with the Vice Trade Minister Mr Aidar Abildabekov and the Actg Tourism Minister Mr Serik Zharasbayev of Kazakhstan on expanding economic cooperation and strengthening bilateral relations between Sri Lanka and Kazakhstan, during her visit to Kazakhstan to present credentials and formally commence engagements.
