On August 29 – September 02, 2020 a delegation from the Embassy of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka in the Russian Federation headed by H.E. the Ambassador Prof. M.D. Lamawansa made the first ever official visit to the city of Kursk and Kursk region. Delegation included Deputy Head of Mission Mr. Mohamed Anas, Second Secretary (Commercial) Ms. Chathurika Perera, Second Secretary (Political) Ms. Nirosha Herath, Consular officer Ms. Nayomi Chandrasiri, Personal Assistant to H.E. the Ambassador Ms. Olessya Romanova, Trade and Tourism promotion Assistant Ms. Maria Selikhova and Culture Promotion Assistant Ms. Yulia Builova.

The city of Kursk currently houses about 400 Sri Lankan students mostly studying at Kursk State Medical University (KSMU) and Kursk State University. Sri Lanka's Honorary Consul in Kursk is Mr. Mohamed Chahine who is the Director of the International Department at KSMU. The Honorary Consul and his team organized a multipurpose trip to the City Kursk for the Embassy Delegation in order to strengthen the ties on political, trade, tourism, culture, education and sport matters, and to explore other areas for further cooperation. 

 

"Arise Sri lanka" is a musical programme in aid of the frontline Sri Lankan health workers engaging in work amid COVID-19, which will be presented at the Nelum Pokuna in Colombo with live Streaming through Facebook and YouTube. The programme has been organized with the endorsement of the Ministry of Health and the assistance of the World Health Organization in Sri Lanka.
