On August 10, 2020 Prof. M.D. Lamawansa, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka to the Russian Federation visited the Moscow Clinical Centre for Infectious Deceases named after V.P. Demikhov in Voronovskoye, Moscow region in order to hand over 46 boxes of Ceylon tea as a token of appreciation from Sri Lanka to the medical staff combating COVID-19 and saving patients' lives.

On August 07, 2020 Prof. M.D. Lamawansa, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka to the Russian Federation hosted dinner for the Sri Lankan community residing in Moscow. The community was represented by well-established businessmen and professionals in different areas.
Addressing the gathering Ambassador M.D. Lamawansa spoke about the longstanding friendly relations established between Russia and Sri Lanka over the decades for which the contribution made by the Sri Lankan Community living in Russia. The Ambassador shared the plans for future and expressed his readiness to work closely with the Sri Lankan community in matters related to culture and trade.

The leader of Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) Mahinda Rajapaksa was sworn in as the 13th Prime Minister of Sri Lanka before President Gotabaya Rajapaksa.
The swearing in ceremony took place at the historic Kelani Raja Maha Viharaya this morning (9).
