The Embassy of Sri Lanka in the Russian Federation is deeply saddened with the news of multiple bombings in Sri Lanka on Easter Sunday and strongly condemns these horrifying attacks.

Our heartfelt condolences to the families and friends of those who were killed in the explosions and wishes of speedy recoveries to the many others who were injured.

On 18 April 2019, Sri Lankan students were awarded for the best dancing performance at the annual Youth Festival "My Country," organized by the Moscow Automobile & Road Construction State University (MADI), Moscow. One of the most fascinating parts of the event was the traditional dancing number of the Sri Lankan students who study at MADI, which won the award for the best dancing performance. During the concert, Sri Lankan students also entertained the audience by singing a Sinhala song.

On April 18, 2019 Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka to the Russian Federation H.E. Dr. Dayan Jayatilleka and Madame Sanja Jayatilleka paid a courtesy call on Igor Ivanov, President of the Russian International Affairs Council (RIAC), who was appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation in 1998 - 2004, and later Secretary of the Russian Security Council. Mr. Ivanov is a Doctor of Historical Sciences, professor of Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO-University), member of the Council on Foreign and Defense Policy, corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Science, member of Supervisory Council of the International Luxembourg Forum on Preventing Nuclear Catastrophe and member of the European Council on Tolerance and Reconciliation. Dr. Ivanov is the Hero of the Russian Federation and the recipient of state awards from Russia and foreign countries.

On 16 April 2019 the National Research Moscow State Construction University (NIU MGSU) hosted the "Day of Nationalities at NIU MGSU", attracting hundreds of its students, including those of Sri Lanka, at the University premises.

Students from more than twenty countries, who are studying at NIU MGSU, showcased indigenous products that constitute the cultural values and display the scenic beauty of their home countries. Demonstration of various peoples' national cuisines also took place during the event.

On April 17, 2019, the Ambassador and Madame Jayatilleka made their first visit to Russian Academy of Sciences' Institute of Far Eastern Studies (IFES) to meet with IFES Director, Dr. Sergey G. Luzyanin, and Dr. Sergey V. Uyanaev, Deputy Director leading the Centre for Forecasting of Contemporary Russia-China Relations at IFES, and Dr. Tamara A. Karganova, Head of IFES International Relations.

On April 13, 2019 Sri Lankan students organized the "Sri Lankan Night 2019" at the Kursk State Medical University (KSMU), in the framework of which they showcased Sri Lankan cultural performances, which included traditional and modern dancing numbers, and singing national songs.
The Sri Lankan Night 2019 was attended not only by KSMU administration and faculty members, but also by Mr. Mohammad Chahine, Honorary Consul of Sri Lanka and Advisor to the Rectorate of the University, Russian and other foreign students, enrolled at KSMU. The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Russia was represented by First Secretary Mr. Dulmith Waruna, who attended the event on behalf H. E. Dr. Dayan Jayatilleka, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Sri Lanka to Russia.
