Sri Lankan student community in Russia is organizing Sri Lankan Cultural Week between 11-15 February, 2019, at the premises of the Peoples' Friendship University with the support and guidance of the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Moscow, in parallel to the 71st anniversary of Sri Lanka's independence.

On February 8, 2019 Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Sri Lanka to the Russian Federation H.E. Dr. Dayan Jayatilleka and Madame Sanja Jayatilleka paid a visit to the Institute of World Economy and International Affairs (IMEMO) of Russian Academy of Science re-named after Evgeny Primakov, the outstanding academician and former Russian Foreign Minister and Prime Minister, who was the Head of IMEMO for 5 years.

On February 7, 2019 Ambassador Dayan Jayatilleka paid a courtesy visit to Her Excellency Eleonora Mitrofanova, Head of the Russian Federal agency for international humanitarian cooperation (Rossotrudnichestvo), Ambassador at large, and the first woman to be appointed First Deputy Minister of the Foreign Affairs of Russia. Dr. Dayan Jayatilleka was accompanied by his spouse, Madame Sanja Jayatilleka. The Russian side was also represented by Mr. Yuri Metelev, Deputy Head of Rossotrudnichestvo, and Ms. Olga Filonova, Deputy Head of the Department of Cooperation in Education and Science.

On February 6, 2019 the Embassy of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka in the Russian Federation held a reception for the Sri Lankan community, residing in Moscow, to celebrate the 71st Independence Day of Sri Lanka.
At the event, the Sri Lankan community was represented by businessmen, academicians, and students, obtaining their higher education at various universities in Moscow.
