The Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Russian Federation, Shobini Gunasekera, concurrently accredited to the Republic of Kazakhstan, presented Letters of Credence to the President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev at a solemn ceremony held at the Akorda Presidential Palace, on 4th March 2026. Along with Ambassador of Sri Lanka seven other newly appointed envoys representing Norway, Argentina, Bangladesh, Mali, Ghana, Gambia, Bosnia and Herzegovina participated in the presentation of credentials.  The formal ceremony was held in accordance with the country’s long – standing diplomatic traditions reflecting its rich state protocol and culture.

The Embassy of Sri Lanka in the Russian Federation hosted a cultural evening on 19 February 2026 to mark the 78th Independence Day of Sri Lanka. The event, held at the Embassy premises, brought together Russian government officials, diplomats, business leaders, academics, artists, and members of the Sri Lanka–Russia Business and Professional Association.
