Russian assistance to improve Sri Lankan agricultural sector
Prominent agricultural institutions and industries in Russia have agreed to assist Sri Lankan agriculture sector. This was highlighted during the site visits made by the Sri Lankan Ambassador to Russia Prof MD Lamawansa and his staff to one of the most leading agricultural regions of Russia, the Kursk region.
Outdoor Sri Lankan Cultural show was held in Russia
With the aim of promoting Sri Lankan culture in the provincial regions of Russia, the Sri Lankan Embassy in Moscow organized a cultural show in the city of Kursk on 31st August. The Kursk city is located 550 Km away from Moscow.
Sri Lankan Embassy promotes Ceylon Tea and Tourism in Kursk region of Russia
Tea section of the Sri Lankan Embassy in Russia organized a tea degustation session on August 31, 2020 in a leading supermarket market chain in the Kursk region "Liniya" at the MegaGrinn shopping mall. This was arranged in the framework of the official visit of H. E. Prof. M. D. Lamawansa, Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Russia, accompanied by Embassy officials.
“Sri Lankan Embassy Cricket Cup – 2020” in the city of Kursk
In the framework of the official visit of H. E. the Ambassador Prof MD Lamawansa to the Kursk region, the Embassy Cricket Cup – 2020" was held in the city of Kursk
The Embassy Cricket Cup was held for the first time in 2008, at the initiative of the Mission and with the participation of the Sri Lankan community in Russia in order to strengthen the interaction among the Russian community, Sri Lankan Community and Sri Lankan students in Russia.

On August 29 – September 02, 2020 a delegation from the Embassy of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka in the Russian Federation headed by H.E. the Ambassador Prof. M.D. Lamawansa made the first ever official visit to the city of Kursk and Kursk region. Delegation included Deputy Head of Mission Mr. Mohamed Anas, Second Secretary (Commercial) Ms. Chathurika Perera, Second Secretary (Political) Ms. Nirosha Herath, Consular officer Ms. Nayomi Chandrasiri, Personal Assistant to H.E. the Ambassador Ms. Olessya Romanova, Trade and Tourism promotion Assistant Ms. Maria Selikhova and Culture Promotion Assistant Ms. Yulia Builova.
Ambassador Prof M.D. Lamawansa visits the modern facilities of Kursk State Medical University, the Oncological Hospital and Kursk State University
The city of Kursk currently houses about 400 Sri Lankan students mostly studying at Kursk State Medical University (KSMU) and Kursk State University. Sri Lanka's Honorary Consul in Kursk is Mr. Mohamed Chahine who is the Director of the International Department at KSMU. The Honorary Consul and his team organized a multipurpose trip to the City Kursk for the Embassy Delegation in order to strengthen the ties on political, trade, tourism, culture, education and sport matters, and to explore other areas for further cooperation.
